[Freegis-list] Any freeware to edit shapefile?

Hi there,

Still I could not find out an open source or freeware that can edit
shapefile (not attribute but shape itself.)  Does anybody know that?  

It takes much time to have steps, generate ASCII -> shapefile ->
display, edit generate ASCII file -> shapefile -> display.
