[Freegis-list] GDAL, reading arcinfo binary grid format

Hi guys,

I am trying to use GDAL to access  arcinfo binary grid format (adf). 
While I have no problem reading the height field file,  I can't read
the image (color) file.  It is my understanding that the color fields 
needed to be interpreted by a color table, right?  But the adf file
doesn't seem to contain a color table?   I can verify that by using
utility program "gdalinfo", which shows no color table.

Can any one tell what is happening here?
