I'm also looking for an overview and further details about data types and formats of different data models (such as DEM). My goal will be to develop a Java based application to create 3D landscapes based on digital elevation models. If time allows it, this application should also be capable of mapping other data onto the base landscape, such as population, street and traffic networks, etc. If anyone is interested in this project, I'll be more than willing to share any results - this project will be open source. At the same time I would be glad about any kind of support / help provided. Is there an FAQ giving an overview and comparison on GIS data software, data types and formats or can you recommend any addresses? Any help is really appreciated! Thanks a lot in advance, Gerrit ]
