For me the problem lies in the (brown?) navigation bar. Its height is
larger than the left/middle elements.
Removing the development stuff (Invalid Data Note, Homepage 1/2) will save
some space, not sure if enough.

? Do you mean latest changes? Yes the the page formatting can be more
compact. Do we explain anywhere how the top 60 are judged? E.g. why is
the by means of FreeGIS relatively useless "DCW in Manifold format" that
prominent?

Do you mean

I think it is ok and helpful, maybe the text in brackets can be removed?
