Hi i was testing with 3d world map programs and i found couple intresting links
what you are maybe intressed to add to your lists...
Earth visualization program, 3d earth map, which loads atuff dynamically from
its serve. It is under gpl and development status is kind-of-very cool demo.

World Wind , something like Keyholes 3d earth map, but this is from nasa and
purpoce is visualise their earth data. It's source code is downloadable from
sourceforge cvs, license is nasa open source license. Development status seems
to be pretty mature. windows only

European Enviroment Agency / Maps and graphs , there is lot of data and data
is downloadable for scientific use tms, after they aproved your asking. I register
and asked corine data about 2months ago, and no answer so they arent very fast...
So not so free, but least something.
