[Freegis-list] World Data Sets

Hi

We have a copy of ESRI's Maplex and are planning on creating a set of 
raster images of world maps, hopefully at something like 1:1000000. Can 
anyone point me to a source of free vector data suitable for this exercise 
(We'd be quite happy to make the raster data public domain once rendered)
