Hi FreeGIS lovers,

I would like to know if anyone has expericence to read
HDF-EOS data or convert them into any common GIS format
on a Linux platform.

I have received ASTER data from Terra mission:
http://asterweb.jpl.nasa.gov/
(ASTER is similar to LANDSAT, but better)

which can be accessed via "EOS Data Gateway"
http://edcimswww.cr.usgs.gov/pub/imswelcome/

They even provide HDF-EOS reader:
http://hdfeos.gsfc.nasa.gov/hdfeos/SoftwareDist.html
but nothing for Linux.

There is another nice tool "HDFlook":
http://www-loa.univ-lille1.fr/informatique/system_gb.html

which can successfully read and visualize these data. But
I can export only portions, not the full dataset.

Any hint would be welcome. Finally I would like to import this
dataset into GRASS (what surprise).

Thanks in advance,

 Markus
