Bernhard will of course correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll try 
to clarify this a little.  

Bernhard didn't mean that the Apache license is not welcome to 
the FreeGIS community - the Apache License does comply with the 
Open Source Defintion and is Free Software as the term is understood
by the FreeGIS project. It is just that although Apache & GPL 
licensed code are both Free Software, they cannot be just lumped 
together into a single codebase.
