The busy days at GNU/LinuxTag in Stuttgart are now over.
We presented the FreeGIS project there at the Intevation
booth and with a talk. Both was a great success.
At the talk about 50 people were present and we had
interesting questions and discussion after the talk.
I think some new people are now aware of the potentials
of Free GIS Software and the GI problem outside USA.
At our booth we presented the FreeGIS site and several
free GIS tools of which the web mapping applications
MapServer and MapIt! were the ones that recveived
the largest interest.
We distributed some FreeGIS CDs (this time also in the sense
of free beer :-). Accidently one CD-case contained a
fresh CD without any data. Unfortunately it was the one
I gave to Jon Maddog Hall and he desperately tried to
find out about our filesystem type that night ...
Well, the next day he received another CD and it
works fine :-)
Jon will help us to promote Free GIS software on GNU/Linux.
His voice is heard at many places where ours might be too thin.
Now back we will prepare an update of the FreeGIS CD and
implement some long-awaited improvements to the FreeGIS site.
Cheers
Jan
