I am still thinking about a start page for FreeGIS.
It must serve a couple of points:
* light-weigth (it must come up quickly)
* give a short explanation on what FreeGIS is
* provide useful content

Especially the combination of the first and third 
point is the actual art of web usability design and
just not easy. Suggestions welcome.

Good idea. I added this to my queue.

Another difficult story. Currently we have
sort of importance order because alphabetically
does not make sense and date might not be apropriate
as well.
It is on my list to offer the opportunity to switch
between different ordering.
