[Freegis-list] ANN: FreeGIS Tutorial 0.2

Dear all,

Heiko Kehlenbrink has finished his base work on the
FreeGIS Tutorial and released version 0.2.0 now heading
to polish it for the final 1.0 release.

Currently it is in German only, because our resources are
limited. Any help for other languages is welcome.

The FreeGIS Tutorial intends to illustrate the use
of Free GIS Software for typical GI-related tasks:

* Detailed examples/procedures are given on which steps to perform
and where to take care.

* It shows alternative solutions if more than one
tool can do the job.

* Different operating systems are considered where possible.

* The whole Tutorial is licensed under the Free Document License.

* All data used are free in the same sense as Free Software
(to be honest due to certain circumstances there is one non-free dataset
discussed to illustrate use of edbs data).

Next step is to create a html-version and make it available online.

It is planned to have the final release by the end of this year.
The FreeGIS Tutorial is meant to accompany the FreeGIS CD,
but it is also of use without the FreeGIS CD.

And finally: The FreeGIS Tutorial is meant to be a continued efford
adding further chapters, further tools and of course updating
to new software revisions. Additional authors are welcome.
