[Freegis-list] R bindings for GDAL

Beautiful, beautiful!

I'm starting to think that R (or its derivative Omega) is the reasonable
place for the analysis of spatial data so you have:

          GIS
        /     \
       R       modeling software
  (analysis)   (spatial modeling)

in a loose affiliation but with each picking up on the data types of the
other. 

look forward to learning this library, thanks for the work,
