[Freegis-list] Shapefile Viewer & Attribute Editor

Hi All,

been looking into Shapefile Viewers & Editors lately, but found none
suitable for my purpose, which is 'no more' then:

* load layer (shapefile)
* select item (polygon or point)
* edit selected item's attribute-value's

At esri.com I stumbled upon MapObjects 2.1, which has some very nice
examples regarding adding shapes and images to a viewer, but could not
find any information regarding Editing-attributes. Also have been
looking into BlueMarbleGeo's GeoObjects. Did not find out that it can
edit attributes (yet).

As it needs to be a stand alone application, MapObjects or GeoObjects is
very suitable. I have Mapserver + PHP-mapscript set up to do just what I
want, but don't want the 'hassle' of setting up a client-server.

Shapefile attribute Editor's applications seem to be scarce. Found only
one, but it's too much hassle for just plain old zooming and some minor
editing.

The idea is that a layman could use just the zoom-buttons and an edit
function.

Does anyone have some experience with editing database values of shapes
/ points / annotations with MapObjects, GeoObjects or any 'tool' or even
a full application ?
