[Freegis-list] digitiser freeware

As a more general question,

what digitizers work with linux? what digitizing Free software is
available for *any* digitizer? I'm thinking of simply getting the data
into the computer, possibly grouped by obejct type (roads, contours).
Here we mostly use microstation for the digitizing tablets at school but
I've wondered for a while about a Free solution.
