I doubt you'll stop them. Ideally we would be able to say: use xxxxxx
instead.


A belated response to some earlier traffic. There *is* some room to
discuss non-free software here in the context of what they do well that
we should replicate. There are quite a few platforms we can learn from
so discussion of that stuff is useful on this list (as long as that's
the context). 

I'm not looking for a flamefest :-)

just finishing my big piece on spatial analysis and I'm getting excited.
The omega project (statistics successor to R http://www.omegahat.org )
has managed to code an interpreter into their java code. Coupled with
geotools this could be pretty interesting...
