Ashraf,

The source code for reading Erdas Imagine files used by GDAL (and MapServer)
is part of the GDAL source tree.  You can download it from the GDAL web page
(http://www.remotesensing.org/gdal) and then look in the gdal/frmts/hfa
directory.  There is also a page about the low level code at:

   http://gdal.velocet.ca/projects/imagine/hfa_index.html

MrSID is a proprietary format, and I know of no open source libraries
that read it without use of the Lizard SDK which does not come with source.
