[Freegis-list] xyz to arcgis grid conversion?

Does anyone know a tool to convert xyz data to ArcGIS grid format, 
preferably something free and Unix command line?  Especially great if it 
will itnerpolate/krige

The source data is LIDAR text data, UTMs.

I am kind of a newbie at this stuff, so be gentle :)

My apologies if this is 1) mentioned in a FAQ or 2) offensive because 
the target file is an ESRI thing.
