you can check out this demo:

Search for 5311 in "Suche Postleitzahlbereiche:"
check the GML box and click OK. Look at the URL of the returned web 
page, it contains the WFS getFeature request.

There are loads of application scenarios, a comprehensive set can be 
found here:
http://www.flo.rlp.de

It implements search functionality with WFS, highlighting and enables 
digitizing functionality.
