Dear Essam:
For your migration from proprietary GIS to
open source, you might also want to look
at TerraLib (www.terralib.org), a general-purpose
C++ library for developing GIS applications.
We have also developed an open source
GIS visualization and analysis tool
using TerraLib, called TerraView,
which reads data in SHP and MIF
formats and stores data in mySQL, PostgreSQL
and PostGIS.
