[Freegis-list] Seamless raster base-map of Europe 2000 now available on the Baltic GIS Portal

Dear free-GISers,

It's my pleasure to inform you that a seamless raster base-map of Europe 
(ETRS90_LAEA CRS, 14.25 m pixel resolution), created on the basis of  
USGS Landsat GeoCover 2000 (USGS Global Land Cover Facility) has been 
recently published on-line at the Baltic GIS Portal (http://gis.ekoi.lt) 
at the Institute of Ecology in Vilnius, Lihuania . Registered users can 
download the 250x250 km tiles compressed into ECW format without any 
limitations and totally free of charge. The easiest way to get the 
images you need is to use the overview map 
(http://gis.ekoi.lt/data/rs/glcf_lsm_2000_laea/glcf_lsm_2000_europe.html).

The Baltic GIS Portal also offers a historical collection of ~400 
original Landsat ETM/TM/MSS images covering the Baltic Sea drainage 
basin (including St. Peterburg and Kaliningrad regions of Russia and 
Byelorus) processed into ERDAS Imagine format from the original scenes 
published by GLCF at the FTP server of the University of Maryland 
(ftp://ftp.glcf.umiacs.umd.edu/glcf/Landsat/WRS2).

A series of seamless GIS data coverages of Europe are currently under 
processing and will be uploaded at the Portal soon.

Go to http://gis.ekoi.lt , register (this is only need to limit the 
traffic to the category of "real" users), and drag down the European 
GIS/Satellite data of your interest.
