Continuing the server "me, too" solutions, GeoServer and TileCache is  
a really easy solution. GeoServer comes as either a WAR file that you  
drop on Tomcat or as a free standing solution that simply requires a / 
geoserver/bin/run.sh .

For a CLI solution, GDAL allows you to create tiles w/out having a  
server do the heavy lifting for you.
