well, for some sort of data in the b2b area this makes sense.

My personal guess is from my recent learning about the practical problems
of accounting OWS is that in mid-term flat-rates will evolve as
the most suitable method for many cases.
The gathered data will be used to get a rough idea on what
is going on, i.e. the statistics will get the more important feature of the
solution we are developing.

Well, telecom connection accounting system is usually designed differently.
Maybe I didn't exactly understood what you mean.

However, several years ago we developed a GIS application on top of
telephone connections database for service numbers. It created spatial
statistics on from where the calls came in. Usually this means to handle
up to some million datasets. This all worked well without any SDI stuff ;-)
