[Mapit] Mapit! on Debian?

Hello. Mapit! users.  Is anyone out there using Mapit on a Debian
system?  I have tried to follow the instructions, but I get this
diagnostic from the server:

Mod_python error: "PythonHandler modmapit"

Traceback (most recent call last):

  File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/mod_python/apache.py", line 287, in HandlerDispatch
    log=debug)

  File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/mod_python/apache.py", line 454, in import_module
    f, p, d = imp.find_module(parts[i], path)

ImportError: No module named modmapit


I am not sure what I am doing wrong.  I am new to python and mod_python,
so please take nothing for granted.  I will be glad to provide more
details to anyone willing to lend a hand.  Thanks.
