Stefan Stiene recieved the "Intevation-Award for achievement in Free Software
2007/2008" at the University of Osnabrück/Germany on February, 15th 2008.
Mr. Stiene developed a Free Software, which afford to develop and test robot
control software in conjunction with the Free simulation framework "USARSim"
and the software development tool "Player".
USARSim and Player are both Free Software, which are used (independently)
about the world in the robot research. The solution of Mr. Stiene is a
contribution to connect both worlds and to strengthen the position of Free
Software in the robot research.
Stefan Stiene has finished his master study "physics with computer science" at
the University of Osnabrück in January 2006. Now he works on the
topic "knowledge-based systems" as scientific assistant in the faculty
computer science.
The Intevation-Award for Free Software is one of 25 awards given out each year
at the University of Osnabrück for excellent student work. The monetary part
of the award is 750 Euro.
