You need the Python bindings for the wxWindows toolkit. They should have
been installed automatically if you used apt-get to install thuban.

However, I see that the thuban package (version 1.0.0-1+b1)  seems to
depend on libwxgtk2.4-python, but as far as I can tell the package is
called python-wxgtk2.4. Could this be the problem ?

Try to install python-wxgtk2.4.
