Thanks Didrik,
we indeed need to keep compatibility with pysqlite1 as Debian 
only packages pysqlite 1.0 and sqlite 2.

Background: 
pysqlite 1.1.x is: legacy API for SQLite 3.x
pysqlite 2.x is the new API (for SQLite 3.x as far as I understand).
