OK, I see why it's there now.  I have my own GDAL directory set up 
somewhere else, so it's not directly useful to me.  Anyway, if it is 
decided to keep it, I would like to suggest to move the directory  
around (or rather its content) so the DLL becomes directly accessible to 
thuban.py.  An other solution would be to ship an extra copy of 
gdal14.dll next to thuban.py
