Do you think it is okay to copy the description from a copyright perspective
(e.g. the original is public domain, not copyrightable or compatible with GNU 
GPL that we are using?)

A good place for patches is the wald patch tracker, btw. 
So we can discuss a patch and have several revisions an all this.
