coincidently, work on this feature will start tomorrow :-)
It is not yet clear whether the result will be an
Extension compatible with 1.0 or whether it will be part
of the 1.1 development branch.

One maintenance tool is the web-based MapLab.
I am not yet sure wether Thuban could/should also be
a maintenance tool for UMN MapServer.
For initial UMN MapServer applications it is certainly
helpful.
