The format description labeled "CD 2 File Formats March, 1993" does not totally correspond to the format found on the CDs "Canadian Daily Climate Data Temperature and Precipitation" with subtitle "Western Canada 1997" and "Eastern Canada 1997", copyright 1999. Here are the differences and unaccuracies I noticed: General: The description of INDEX.ALL, containing Index File Header Records is missing. Where does the "003" item which can be viewed by Cdcd.exe comes from? Is does not seem to be included on the CD, but is calculated. Page 1: the size of "INTEGER" (2 bytes) should be given, also the little endian bitorder. I know that there is a note about the "Integer" size on page 4, but it is not clear that is also holds for other "INTEGERS" mentioned before that. Page 2: in "2. STATIONS.ALL": This file contains Index File Data Records and _not_ Index File Header Records as written. The description would fit the INDEX.ALL file. Page 3: DataAvailable: It should be explained that this flags indicate what data records are actually in the data file and in which order. So when reading 002 it is in the first record, if 001 is not available, but in the second if 001 is available. Page 4: an array of 366 flags (1 nibble each): nibble=4 bits and each nibble can be interpreted as a byte. The wording about expanding the array made me wonder if it is flexible depending on something, which is not the case. The data flag description is missing, but was luckily included in Cdcd.doc. The Summary sets: Min and Max Temperature do not include 13 bytes. It seems that item 6 Minimum Max or Maximun Min should be an "Integer" and not a "one character". The description of the 12 sets with fixed length 13 bytes is wrong. On the CD I found all number 1 values first. So for Precipitation the Total mm for all month giving me 2*12=24 bytes and then the 12 bytes for the number of days missing. It would be nice to make it even more clear that the summary depends on, what lind of data record this is. And there are six different data records (001,002,010,011,012,013). 29. 8.1999 Bernhard Reiter 28.12.2003 Bernhard Reiter Corrected some obvious typos.
