[Freegis-list] Projection

I  wanted to convert a shapefile that is in stereographic projection to flat
world map projection. My aim is to get coordinates of the map in Lat/Long. I
used the Projector extension that comes with Arcview and it gave me  a kind
of  strange shapefile with lots of unnecessary horizontal parallel lines. Is
there anybody out there with solution to my problem?.
