[Freegis-list] Excel Mapping

Hallo,
I don't know many about the Mapping feature of Excel, but I can say that it
is not an integral excel-feature. It is an special MapInfo-OCX that uses
only MapInfo-Tab-Files for the map-display and Excel-Data is used for
shading. The component object model (COM) is the key of that integration.
I think, this could be a way for your problem: do not integrate gis-features
direct in the code of gnumeric but make an interface for existing free
software. Look for an extension system for gnumeric, a component model for
gnome or something corba-like.
