Cool.

It would make sense to make that a project on its own,
so that other graphic, CAD or GIS applications could benefit
from the knowledge about the format?

The GRASS community also needs a good DXF/DWG reader libraries.

Also it might attract even more help.
Because it is going to be a competition against the proprietary
Opendwg libs, considering the GNU LGPL might make sense for this
code piece.

Do you have pointer for the discussion why the pythonCAD people
did not improve any of the existing libraries?
E.g. DIME or dxflib.
