there is no real comparisson possible since the targets and 
requierements are different. The simplest way is to write down
what you want now and in future and can invest.
The next problem free/open souftware is a moving target. features
you may need now can be available in the next release.
the opposit: you will provide code that the maintainer dont like.

Hi all.
Is anybody aware of a comparison between a free software and the commercial 
equivalent? I am thinking especially of:
GRASS vs Arc/INFO
and
PostgreSQL+PostGIS+GEOS vs Oracle+Spatial
I suspect in several respects free software is just better (not only cheaper 
and/or ethically better), and it would be good to show this with real 
examples.
