[Mapit] newbie question

They related to the x-y coordinates of the tiles given in the info files.  
It is just a float falue with no unit, so you can use any x-y
coordinate systmes as long as your tiles and the marker locations
use the same coordinate systems.

MapIt! uses already projected data.
If you have lat-long coordinates you have to apply the same projection
formular to get the flat x-y coordinates. Of course for small areas
this is easy if you use no projection at all.
