i can't reproduce the problem. at 352x310 it seems to be working for me:

what kind of machine are you using? (i.e., maybe it's an endian
problem?) can you send me the list of library versions from the about
box? here's mine:

Compiled for:
	GTK 1.2.10
	proj 4.4.9

have you tried deleting the build directory and building everything from
scatch?
