Indeed. You think it is just a gizmo until you've used it. Afterwards, it
becomes as useful as having a legend. Really.

Blend your DEM with hillshading with a scanned chart. 

Blend three kernel-based distribution rasters in R,G and B hues to get a
three-variable statistical view.

Blend your DEM with a landsat image.

See?
