i'm confused by your rt comments. is it sometimes segfaulting? under
what conditions?

you end with "So it would be even better" and don't finish the sentence.

i can imagine what you are going to say, however, and there is a comment
in the code that says that the error reporting should be communicated
the user better. just need to do it :)
